The papers include : notes and newspaper cuttings collected as part of the research for a book entitled A town grows : Carnarvon, Western Australia; cuttings and notes on the centenary celebrations in Goulburn, NSW, 1963; correspondence, notes and pamphlets on the Pioneer Women's Memorial Fountain, Kings Park, Perth; two English ration books issued by the Ministry of Food; brochures, notes, cuttings, articles, photographs and souvenirs relating to travel in England and Australia; manuscripts and typescripts of short stories, poems, and articles written by R. Scott Memory; and a typescript entitled Following George Grey's survival trek after he and party of 11 men were shipwrecked in 1839.

Sir George Grey was Governor of South Australia 1841-1845, New Zealand 1845-1853, Cape Colony 1853-59. He was recalled to England 1859 for encouraging, without special permission, a policy of South African federation, but was later restored to office and was again Govenor of New Zealand 1861-1867.
